Destination Anywhere’s Melanie Oliveiro finds out where Singaporeans can go to see some movie offerings at the sixth edition of the Painting with Light film festival. Held at the National Gallery Singapore from 4 to 14 September 2025, the festival spotlights 45 films exploring art, culture, and works that address the urgent social issues. NGS’ senior curator Dr Adele Tan will highlight some of the films and festival activities. Dr Tan will also talk about an NGS exhibition she curated: “Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art”, an SG60 signature programme dedicated to Singapore’s art history featuring revered artists like Chua Mia Tee and Georgette Chen.

Connor Morel (portraying Gimli), Stefanie Caccamo (portraying Arwen) and Terence Crawford (portraying Gandalf the Grey) will talk about how the cast are required to play multiple roles, often acting as musicians and performers simultaneously. They’ll also talk about their individual roles and how these compare with the film versions depicted in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. They’ll also discuss the original music by Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman.
