Daily Cuts - A Letter to Myself: How Edy Ongkowijaya turned hard knocks into a thriving ayam penyet business
Edy Ongkowijaya is the founder of the D'Penyetz chain of Indonesian restaurants, which has a sprawling presence in six countries, including 14 outlets in Singapore. But as an Indonesian teenager comfortably studying in Singapore in the early 90's, Edy's life was completely changed when his father went bankrupt. It set him off on a journey that, at one point, saw him work four jobs to support his family back home. His early foray into F&B would also see him endure even more business setbacks. Edy passionately shares how he rose above the series of adversities and eventually found success in starting his F&B franchise which serves up ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken served with sambal) as its signature dish.
