Daily Cuts - Global mpox emergency: How badly will Singapore be affected?

Countries in Asia are monitoring the Mpox outbreak very closely as cases start to pop up in the region. Thailand reported a suspected first case of the new more dangerous strain of the disease on Aug 21. The World Health Organisation said there have been more than 14,000 cases and over 520 deaths in Africa this year, which already exceeds last year's figures. Daily Cuts - NDR2024: Reprieve for retrenched workers under new temporary financial support scheme

Some reprieve for those who are involuntarily unemployed in the form of an interim financial support under an upcoming new scheme. The SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme will provide retrenched workers payouts of up to $6,000 over a maximum period of six months, as they seek out or train for better jobs. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong unveiled these details in his maiden National Day Rally speech on Aug 18 with more information about the scheme to be provided in due course by the Manpower Ministry. Daily Cuts - Ceasefire deal still elusive, even as Blinken wraps up trip

Top US diplomat Antony Blinken said a Gaza ceasefire deal needs to get done in the coming days. He made the comment in Qatar, as he wrapped up his latest visit to the Middle East. Israel had agreed to an American proposal on bridging gaps to seal a truce. While Hamas said it is keen to reach a ceasefire agreement, it complained that the latest proposal was a “reversal” of what it had agreed to.
