How to be a strong woman, according to Charlize Theron
“Be brave and go out there and live your life like this is not a dress rehearsal.”
With the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements trending, there’s no better time than now to talk about women standing up for themselves. Cases in point: Emma Watson, Lupita Nyong’o and Uma Thurman, who are some of the famous faces that recently spoke up about sexual harassments in the showbiz.
Joining them is one of Hollywood’s biggest names, Charlize Theron. In a video interview with Parfums Christian Dior that was produced in celebration of International Women’s Day, the J'adore ambassador reveals her secret to becoming a stronger woman. Growth requires us to “make mistakes”. Because let’s face it: “Nobody is blessed with this genetic mutation of brilliance and strength,” Theron says. “Life teaches you strength.”
And her best advice for women out there who may be struggling to find their own strengths? “Be brave,” she says. “And go out there and live your life like this is not a dress rehearsal.”
The 42-year-old actress also shares her encounter with the late Elizabeth Taylor, whom she admires. “I was 21 at the time,” she recounts. “I told her: ‘I really admire you because you’re such a strong woman.’ And she just turned to me and kind of laughed me off and went, ‘Oh, darling, I’m a survivor!’”
