Banks shouldn’t issue receipt for cash deposits unless users ask for it
Small steps will go a long way in the fight against climate change, says the writer.
We should never underestimate the power of small acts in fighting climate change.
I have noticed a gap in Singapore’s efforts: Bank receipts.
At present, when withdrawing cash, we are given a choice of receiving a receipt stating the latest balance in our bank accounts.
But this is not the case for cash deposits, where a receipt is issued automatically.
Why is there such a contradiction?
We should institute a rule for cash deposits by which no receipt is printed unless the user opts for it.
It is good to have bold plans to fight climate change, but we ought to take small, concrete steps as well.
