I read with dismay TODAY’s report on Singaporeans flocking to nightspots on Wednesday (March 25) before they are closed for a month, despite the Government’s advisory and plea for citizens to avoid large-scale gatherings and crowds to reduce the risk of local spread of Covid-19 (“‘One last night of fun’: Revellers throng nightspots before closures, but merrymaking masks worries over shattered livelihoods”; March 26).

The Yolo (you only live once) attitude is a fancy label for selfishness and self-interests. Those who went out for “one last night” of partying treated the situation as if a truce had been arranged with Covid-19 to give them a break before hostilities resumed.

There are no holidays in a pandemic. It is a relentless war to the finish. I sincerely hope those with the Yolo and Fomo (fear of missing out) mindsets get it into not only their heads but their hearts that this world is not just about them and their pleasures.

And it is not just their today that counts, but everybody's tomorrows.

I would like to propose a new tagline Nolah — no one lives alone here.

Think about others and not just yourself. Now that is a message I hope would be spread widely.
