Residents along Yamuna River among those hardest hit by monsoon rains in India
More than 10,000 people have been evacuated from the capital New Delhi, amid heavier-than-normal monsoon rains in much of northern India. Among the hardest hit are residents of densely packed colonies along the Yamuna River. The New Delhi government said it has deployed heavy-duty pumps and built temporary embankments to prevent further flooding. Locals welcome the effort, but blame unchecked urbanisation and poor preparedness for their ordeal. Nationwide, over 1,100 lives have been reportedly lost since May. Ishan Garg reports.
