In parliament on Monday (Mar 3), MP Vikram Nair once again highlighted that the US seemed to be redefining its relationship with both its NAFTA and NATO allies. He noted that “more troublingly”, the US had also announced it will withdraw from the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement. He wanted to know the impact of these moves on international cooperation to tackle issues such as pandemics and climate change. He also asked how small states like Singapore can prevent a weakening of the international rules-based order.
