Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on trust, racial and religious harmony and levelling up technology
Singapore has largely maintained high levels of trust in its institutions, but it must not be taken for granted, said MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim in parliament on Monday (Mar 3). Noting that institutions globally “are suffering from a trust deficit”, he wanted to know what the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has done to shore up public trust and confidence in the Home Team. He also wanted to know how stakeholders such as community organisations and the general public can work with the government to safeguard and defend Singapore's racial and religious harmony in the coming years. On the topic of technology, Mr Zhulkarnain asked MHA to provide an update on its efforts to level up the security industry. With the rise in cybercrime, he wanted to know how the Home Team is enhancing its partnerships with the community and members of the public to promote safety and security in both the digital and physical space.
