Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 4: Ong Hua Han on improving the public transport experience
To fulfil Singapore’s car-lite ambitions, having a world-class public transport system must be a priority. This means making it accessible, safe and pleasant for all - including seniors, children, parents with prams and wheelchair users. NMP Ong Hua Han said this in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5). He asked about the government’s plans to further enhance the commuter experience. He also suggested more inclusive engagement in gathering feedback, with dedicated outreach to seniors and persons with disabilities (PWDs). Online feedback channels may end up excluding less digitally savvy groups like the elderly, he said. Finally, Mr Ong asked about increasing the availability and affordability of wheelchair transport, as public transport may not be feasible for some PWDs.
