Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 4: Saktiandi Supaat on impact of new energy sources

Part of Singapore’s strategy for reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 is to increase clean energy imports. Conditional approval has been granted for multiple projects to import low-carbon electricity from regional countries. What infrastructure is required to ensure that imported energy sources are seamlessly fed into Singapore’s energy grid? MP Saktiandi Supaat asked this question in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5). As Singapore explores alternatives such as nuclear power or hydrogen-powered plants, and with the top-up to the Future Energy Fund, he also wanted to know what the impact of decarbonisation on energy pricing will be.
