Koh Poh Koon on Street Hawking Scheme
In the past decade, 21 licences were issued under the Street Hawking Scheme for the sale of ice cream. Of these, 11 remain active as of January this year, said Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Koh Poh Koon, who was replying to an MP's questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). He added that the scheme is intended to provide temporary assistance for unemployed individuals to "tide over a rough patch". These individuals are assessed to be best served through a street hawking licence rather than other financial assistance or employment matching schemes offered by the Social Service Office.
