For those looking to enhance their knowledge, skills and career prospects in business, Kaplan Higher Education Academy and Aston University in Birmingham have teamed up to offer postgraduate programmes that blend academic excellence with real-world relevance.

Dr Sam Choon Yin, dean of Academic Partnerships at Kaplan Higher Education Academy, said that Aston University was chosen as a partner for its innovative teaching methods, focus on employability and commitment to quality education.

Aston Business School’s Triple-Crown accreditation speaks volumes about its standards. Globally, only 1 per cent of business schools hold Triple-Crown accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the Association of MBAs and the European Quality Improvement System. In addition, Aston University is ranked 66th for Business and Management Studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.

Besides its consistent high rankings in university league tables, Aston University offers a wide range of master’s degree programmes tailored to industry needs, shared Dr Sam. “The programmes equip students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in today’s competitive job market,” he said.

At Kaplan Higher Education Academy, Aston University offers part-time master’s degree programmes in digital marketing and strategy, strategic business analytics and strategic supply chain management, and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme.

Part-time programmes at Kaplan are structured to offer flexible scheduling options, says Dr Sam Choon Yin, dean of Academic Partnerships at Kaplan Higher Education Academy.

“Aston University is known for its cutting-edge research and innovation,” noted Dr Sam. “Our partnership grants students access to the latest research developments and opportunities to engage in meaningful research projects, particularly through the DBA programme.”

AN EDUCATION FOR REAL-WORLD SUCCESS

Professor Marian Garcia, dean of Aston University, said that Aston Business School focuses on the application of knowledge rather than mere theory. It works with business leaders and its global alumni network to ensure students are well-prepared for the workforce upon graduation.

Innovative teaching methods at Aston Business School include gamification and simulations. Combining educational expertise with broad industry experience, its faculty have authored key textbooks in economics and taxation that are used in business schools across the globe, she added.

The partnership with Kaplan Higher Education Academy aligns with the internationalisation pillar of Aston’s 2030 strategy, which aims to build strategic alliances with like-minded education providers outside the United Kingdom.

Both Aston University and Kaplan share goals of ensuring an excellent student experience, providing flexible and tailored learning, and facilitating student success.

The programmes in Singapore are designed with the needs of early- and mid-career professionals in mind, offering the skills and insights needed for career acceleration. Students at Kaplan Higher Education Academy enjoy flexible scheduling options and a blended learning approach that combines in-person classes with online learning, allowing them to balance professional and academic commitments.

Kaplan Higher Education Academy also provides dedicated support services, such as academic advising and career counselling. Its student support team assists with scheduling, coursework and personal concerns. In addition, students receive continuous feedback to help them monitor their grades and adjust their study schedules as needed. This collaborative learning environment is complemented by real-world assignments that students can apply in their workplaces, said Prof Garcia.

ENABLING WORLD-CLASS INNOVATION

Aston Business School uses gamification and simulations to enhance students' learning with innovative teaching methods, shares Prof Marian Garcia, dean of Aston University.

The emphasis for Aston University’s DBA programme is on engaging in field-leading research that contributes to both academic knowledge and practical solutions for business and society.

The programme is designed for leaders aiming to develop the academic expertise needed to drive tangible change within their organisations, grounded in innovative research projects that address critical business and management issues.

“The research phase of the DBA is supported by our academics at Aston Business School,” explained Prof Garcia. “You will study independently, become an expert in your field and be guided remotely by our researchers in Birmingham.”

In conjunction with the partnership launch, Kaplan is offering inaugural intake grants of up to S$5,450 to local applicants of Aston University’s programmes. These grants, available for the October 2024 intake, reflect Kaplan Higher Education Academy’s dedication to supporting local talent in Singapore.

“Like our partnership with Aston University, the grants mark a milestone in Kaplan Higher Education Academy’s commitment to delivering exceptional education and expanding opportunities for personal and professional growth,” said Dr Sam. “We are excited about their potential impact and look forward to welcoming talented individuals to Aston University programmes at Kaplan Higher Education Academy.”
