Song Joong-ki’s latest film will be out of this world. The Korean actor plays a space pilot in Space Sweepers, which will premiere on Netflix on Feb 5.

Song’s character is part of the crew of a space junk collector vessel called Victory. He’s joined by a pirate captain played by Kim Tae-ri, a spaceship engineer played by Jin Sun-kyu and a reprogrammed military robot played by Yoo Hai-jin.

Together, the crew live off salvaging space debris in the year 2092.

Things get a little more complicated when they come across Dorothy after going through a space shuttle that has crashed. They discover that the seven-year-old is a humanlike robot that’s capable of causing mass destruction and decide that she would be worth a lot of money to the right (or is that wrong?) people.

Space Sweepers was originally scheduled to hit cinemas in South Korea in September 2020 but had its release delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, it will now premiere on Netflix in 190 countries.

The sci-fi flick is directed by Jo Sung-hee of A Werewolf Boy fame. Song also starred in the 2012 film.

Incidentally, Song’s ex-wife, Song Hye-kyo, has just been confirmed as a lead in a new series from the writer of Descendants Of The Sun, the very show where the two met. The couple married in 2017 and divorced two years later.

Here's the trailer for Space Sweepers.
