"The bottom value is a bit high," notes Masahiro, reflecting the concern that drives their daily health regime. The average Japanese person consumes 10.1 grams of sodium per day, double that of WHO’s recommendation of less than 5 grams. The importance of managing sodium intake is underscored by the Japanese Society of Hypertension's guidelines, which advocate for systolic blood pressure to be below 120mmHg and diastolic below 80mmHg. 

The Setodas' meticulous health routine is not just about self-care; it reflects a national concern. Japan faces a significant challenge with hypertension, the most prevalent illness among its populace, leading to severe health issues such as strokes and heart disease.

The testing sessions reveal varied reactions, with many participants noting a marked increase in saltiness, which confirms the spoon's potential efficacy. "It tastes a lot saltier now," remarked one of the trial participants, affirming the device's impact on flavour perception.
