Shaji Philip, a deputy director at SMRT, is the founder of the Singapore Social Cricket League, which has grown into a 3,000-strong community, two-thirds of whose members are migrant workers. It achieved the remarkable feat of earning a Guinness World Record in 2024 for the largest cricket tournament held in a single venue — on a field in Sengkang. Shaji, who is in his mid-50's, shares his passion for cricket and how the club has grown into a strong community that has even provided its members with a lifeline in times of need.
