The Global Refugee Forum has just opened with a call for an "immediate and sustained humanitarian cease-fire" in Gaza. The three-day forum, which is set to end on Friday, is the largest international meeting on refugee issues. Andrea Heng and Susan Ng spoke with Mary Crock, Professor of Public Law, University of Sydney who tells us the importance of this Refugee Forum. Daily Cuts - Managing the danger of falling trees in a garden city

Daily Cuts - Response to Thai PM Srettha Thavisin's new policies

Srettha Thavisin made his first policy speech on Monday, and he’s expected to announce more policies on Tuesday, 12 Sept 2023. Mainly, he is pledging $16 billion cash handout to revive the economy. This is part of the ‘digital wallet plan’. But Dr Pitch Pongsawat from the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University says there are still a lot of questions that need answers.

Daily Cuts - No more 'nicknames' feature on PayNow

Making payments on PayNow is convenient and efficient. But there have been concerns when it comes to the 'nicknames' feature. There have been cases where names of legitimate companies have been used as PayNow nicknames. Scammers then use this to dupe victims into transferring money via PayNow to their own bank accounts instead. But come next year, PayNow will introduce a security feature to protect customers from being scammed. Choo Wan Sim is a representative of the Association of Banks Singapore. She’s also Head of Digital at UOB. She tells Arnold & Andrea how this new safety feature can help stop scams.

Daily Cuts - US President Joe Biden goes to Vietnam

US president Joe Biden has wrapped up a two-day visit to Vietnam, as both countries upgraded ties to the highest level. Mr Biden said that this was not an attempt to contain China. However, Washington and Beijing are at odds on a range of global issues, and Mr Biden has accused China of wanting to reshape the international order to its will. Dr Le Hong Hiep, Senior Fellow, Vietnam Studies Programme, ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute tells Arnold & Andrea if this meeting was a win for both countries.
