In ‘Culture Club’, Melanie Oliveiro speaks with acclaimed Canadian writer, Esi Edugyan, who was recently in town for the Singapore Writers Festival 2024. Edugyan talks about the issues raised in her latest Booker-Prize shortlisted novel “Washington Black”. Washington Black is the name of the book’s main character.  He escapes from a life condemned to slavery and subsequently travels the world – getting into many adventures – meeting good and horrible people along the way.

Singapore has begun recruiting auxiliary police officers from five more countries, to meet rising security needs amid a shrinking local workforce.
