Daily Cuts - Women are flocking to the cinemas in China

In China, it’s been a record-breaking few months for movie theatres as young women flocked to see home-grown films. The number is staggering - More than 570 million people flocked to cinemas in the past four months. Box office receipts totaled $3.2 billion between June and September. This is the highest amount for that period in history. For the top five movies, 61% of the viewers were women, the highest percentage on record. Professor Ying Zhu is from the Academy of Film at Hong Kong Baptist University. She’s also author of the book, ‘Hollywood in China Behind the Scenes of the World’s Largest Movie Market’. She tells Arnold & Andrea why women are rushing to the cinemas.
