Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Carrie Tan on public housing rental relief, matching of isolated elderly with single-parent families

05:16 Min
MP Carrie Tan has called for a rental waiver for all public housing residents for six months to a year. She said in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4) that a blanket waiver for at least six months would give a much-needed reprieve to families who live on the brink. She also proposed putting isolated elderly and single-parent families together for better social outcomes. "The cost savings from building new rental flats can be used instead as rent paid out to financially challenged and isolated elderly flat owners if they are willing to open up their homes to single parents and their children."
