SINGAPORE: Nine Nominated Members of Parliament (NMP) received their instruments of appointment on Thursday.
President Tony Tan Keng Yam presented the instruments to the nine NMPs at the Istana.
They are Faizah Haji Ahmad Jamal, Nicholas Fang, Janice Koh, Laurence Lien, Mary Liew, R Dhinakaran, Eugene Tan, Tan Su Shan and Teo Siong Seng.
Other than Mr Teo who has been selected for a second term, eight of the NMPs are fresh faces.
The NMP scheme was introduced in 1990 to get non-partisan citizens into the House and add a diversity of voices.
The NMPs will take their oaths during the next session of parliament on February 14.
