4 shuttle bus services to be rolled out for shortened EWL weekend operations

SINGAPORE — Four shuttle bus services will be introduced to facilitate the shortened weekend operational hours of the eastern stretch of the East-West Line this month, the SMRT said on Monday (Jan 1).
The 10 MRT stations affected by the rail maintenance and renewal works stretches from Pasir Ris to Paya Lebar, and from Tanah Merah to Changi Airport.
The shuttle bus services “will stop at pick-up and drop-off points near the affected MRT stations,” the SMRT said in a press release.
During the early closure, late opening and full-day closure of the stations, two shuttle bus services - Shuttle 7 and 8 - will be available for commuters travelling between Aljunied and Pasir Ris MRT stations, and between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport stations in both directions.
An additional shuttle service (Shuttle 11) will also be introduced at Aljunied MRT station “to provide commuters with a connection” to the Macpherson station, which is an interchange with the Circle Line and the Downtown Line.
An express service (Express 12) will also run between Changi Airport and Bugis stations in one direction to provide commuters with a connection to the city area.
Unlike the other shuttle services which will run every three to five minutes during peak periods and every five to 10 minutes during non-peak periods, the express service will have a service interval of between 15 and 18 minutes.
LONGER INTERVALS ON NSL
The SMRT also said that commuters can expect longer train service intervals on the North-South Line this month.
Train services between Orchard and Marina South Pier MRT stations will operate at longer intervals of 10 to 15 minutes after 11.00pm on Friday and Saturday nights, and before 7.00am on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
There will also be no service between City Hall and Raffles Place MRT stations during this period.
“Night bus services and some regular bus services along the affected stretch will be enhanced with additional buses during this period,” said the SMRT.
The rail operator also advises commuters to plan their journeys in advance, and “seek alternative transport via other MRT lines or bus services where possible”.
