SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday (June 2) reported 544 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, bringing the total number of infections here to 35,836.
Of the four cases in the community, one is an 80-year-old Singaporean woman who is a family member of a previously confirmed case. The other three cases included two work pass holders and a work permit holder, MOH said.
Among the three work pass and work permit holders, one infection was picked up as a result of the MOH’s proactive screening of migrant workers working in essential services.
One other is a contact of a previously confirmed case and had already been placed on quarantine earlier.
“Epidemiological investigations are ongoing for the remaining case,” MOH said.
The health ministry noted that the number of new cases in the community has decreased from an average of seven cases a day in the week before to an average of four cases a day in the past week.
MOH added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
The remaining 540 new infections on Tuesday were linked to the foreign workers residing in the dormitories.
MOH said that it continues to pick up many cases amongst work permit holders residing in the dormitories, including in factory-converted dormitories, because of extensive testing in these premises, as part of its process to verify and test the status of all workers.
Separately, the health ministry also identified three new clusters of infections in the dormitories here. They are located at 6 Tuas View Square, 65 & 67 Tuas View Walk 2 and 18 Woodlands Industrial Park E1.
UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CASES
In all, MOH said that 23,175 people have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 709 on Tuesday.
There are currently 331 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and six are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 12,306 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-four people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
