Amos Yee’s two-day trial to start on Thursday

SINGAPORE — The trial for Amos Yee, who has been charged with making offensive remarks about Christians and circulating obscene images, will begin on Thursday (May 7) morning.
This was revealed by one of the three lawyers representing the 16-year-old after a pre-trial conference at the State Courts this afternoon (May 4).
Speaking to reporters after the closed-door hearing, Mr Ervin Tan, one of the lawyers representing Amos, said the trial will run for two days.
“We don’t wish to see him spend more time in remand than necessary,” he said.
He also said Amos watched the hearing via video link from Changi Prison, where he is currently in remand.
Amos was charged in March over remarks he made in a video uploaded on YouTube. He initially faced three charges, but one charge for making comments about the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew that were likely to cause distress to Singaporeans was stood down.
Last week, he broke bail conditions by posting on his blog, leading to his bailor Vincent Law, a youth and family counsellor, to apply to be discharged. District Judge Kessler Soh also raised the bail amount from S$20,000 to S$30,000.
Amos has been has been in remand since.
