BG Mervyn Tan to take over as Air Force chief

SINGAPORE - Brigadier-General (BG) Mervyn Tan Wei Ming will take over as the Chief of Air Force from Major-General (MG) Hoo Cher Mou on Mar 28, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) announced today (Jan 29).
MINDEF said the change is part of its continuing process of leadership renewal in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
BG Tan – currently Director Military Intelligence (DMI) and Chief Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) first joined the SAF in 1990 and was awarded the SAF Overseas Training Award in 1992.
BG Tan has held other positions in the SAF. Currently as DMI and C4I, BG Tan plays a key role in raising, training and sustaining the military intelligence community to ensure the SAF remains at the forefront of military intelligence amidst and evolving security environment.
Writing on Facebook, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen paid tribute to the outgoing Air Force chief. “MG Hoo has served the SAF with distinction for 32 years. I thank him for his dedication, service and contributions, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. I ask for the men and women of the SAF to lend their support to the new CAF, BG Mervyn Tan. I am confident that BG Tan will provide strong and steady leadership for the RSAF,” said Dr Ng.
