Covid-19: 596 more cases in S'pore as 5 new clusters emerge

SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health on Sunday (April 19) said that there are 596 new cases of Covid-19 infections in Singapore. This brings the total number of infections in the country to 6,588.
There were no imported infections.
The MOH also identified five new clusters of infections: Woodlands Lodge I (50 Woodlands Industrial park E4), Changi Lodge II (80 Tanah Merah Coast Road), 51 Paya Ubi Industrial Park, 17 Jalan Besut and Sembawang Shipyard (198 Tagore Lane).
Of the 596 cases, 30 are cases in the community. Of these, 25 are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents and five are work pass holders.
MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 37 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 31 per day in the past week.
However, it added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has increased slightly, from an average of 18 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 22 per day in the past week.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
CASES INVOLVING FOREIGN WORKERS
MOH said that 544 cases on Sunday were linked to work permit holders residing in dormitories.
The remaining 22 infections were traced to work permit holders residing outside dormitories.
“The main increase today continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories, in line with our continued efforts to actively test and isolate the infected workers. Most of these cases are young, have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals. None of them is in the intensive care unit,” the health ministry said.
The health ministry added that 133 more cases are linked to the cluster at S11 Dormitory in Punggol, bringing the total number of infections there to 1,508 thus far.
UPDATE ON THE CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19
In all, MOH said that 768 patients have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 26 discharged on Sunday.
Of the 2,921 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are in stable condition or improving.
Twenty-two patients are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH added that 2,888 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Eleven have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
