SINGAPORE — The campaign trail enters the weekend. Here's a look at what's happening on the ground.

5pm - 8pm: Mr Lee Hsien Loong on walkabouts

 

 

From 4pm: PAP vehicle seen in Jurong, walkabouts continue

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was on a walkabout in Hougang Central, accompanied by PAP's Aljunied candidates, his wife Ho Ching and former PAP chairman Lim Boon Heng.

He then continued on to Serangoon Gardens Market & Food Centre.

From 11am: PAP press conference

At the press conference, People's Action Party's (PAP) secretary general Lee Hsien Loong stressed the importance of a candidate's character and integrity.

Mr Lee also talked about taxes, after the Workers' Party had cited GST hikes following GE 2011 as an example of how the PAP might reverse popular policies or reinstate non-popular ones if it gets too strong a mandate. He also commented on the Opposition's manifestos that focus on doling out more money to Singaporeans.

When asked about PAP's chances of winning back Aljunied GRC, Mr Lee said the spirit was good at the party's rally yesterday.

From 8am: Candidates on walkabouts

At a hawker centre in Bedok South Road, the People's Action Party's Lim Swee Say was spotted alone with grassroots volunteers handing out flyers to residents.

The Workers' Party's (WP) East Coast team of Mr Gerald Giam, Mr Leon Pereira, Dr Daniel Goh and Mr Mohd Fairoz Sharif were spotted at Changi Village speaking to residents. WP's Hougang SMC candidate Png Eng Huat was with them on the walkabout.

WP chief Low Thia Khiang was on a walkabout at the Aljunied Ave 2 hawker centre with the party's MacPherson SMC candidate Bernard Chen. When asked about the National Solidarity Party's (NSP) Cheo Chai Chen’s recent remarks that Ms Tin’s new mother status is her weakness in this electoral campaign, Mr Chen said: “I don’t agree (with Mr Cheo’s comments). This kind of comments shouldn’t exist in the Singapore’s political scene.” Read the full story.

Over at Tampines St 32, PAP's Desmond Choo bumped into NSP's Lim Tean, just before their walkabouts. Mr Lim said he did not think that Mr Cheo's comments on Ms Tin would affect the party's Tampines campaign.

NSP's Nor Lella Mardiiiah Mohamed was seen speaking to residents in Mandarin at a Tampines coffeeshop.

Mountbatten SMC candidate Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss was at Dakota Crescent on a walkabout.

Singapore Democratic Party's Damanhuri Abas and his team were meeting residents at Bukit Panjang.

At Yishun MRT and bus interchange, PAP candidates for Nee Soon GRC Mr Louis Ng, Dr Lee Bee Wah and Mr K Shanmugam were seen on a walkabout.

PAP's Zaqy Mohamad served senior residents breakfast at Chua Chu Kang GRC.
