SINGAPORE — More national servicemen will be offered monetary incentives to recognise their service to the country, Senior Minister of State for Defence Ong Ye Kung announced on Thursday (April 7).

Here’s a summary of what NSmen can get:

— For good performance during their In-Camp Trainings and NS courses:

—  Top 10 per cent will receive S$200

— Next 20 per cent will receive S$100 worth of vouchers

— S$200 worth of vouchers for getting awards like National Day Award recipients, SAF/SPF/SCDF NSmen of the Year

—  Celebratory gifts

$100 worth of vouchers when they get married
$100 worth of vouchers when they welcome a new child to the family

— Enhanced basic life and personal insurance coverage:

— S$150,000 in group term life and group personal accident insurance

— Will cover all incidents during full-time NS and official operationally-ready NS activities

— New SAFRA Punggol club will open on April 24. It will:

— Have a cycling and rollerblading kiosk so people can rent bicycles and inline skates

— Feature Singapore’s first indoor water playground, three storeys high that spans 23,000 sq ft (2,136.8 sq m)

— Have food and beverage outlets, enrichment centres, a childcare centre, and recreational and wellness centres

—  Serve about 80,000 NSmen and their families in the north-east region of Singapore

— Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) accreditation for some NS courses undertaken:

—  Includes Flight Line Crew Course, Officer Cadet Course, Automotive Basic Technician Training (Wheeled and Track) and Military Police Basic Course.

— The SAF Engineering Scholarship:

—  Will cover local and overseas universities and have a six-year bond.

—  Holders will assume engineering appointments in MINDEF/SAF.

—  Opportunities for them to be rotated to organisations such as Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and DSO National Laboratories
