SINGAPORE: A 70-year-old man died after a fire broke out in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in MacPherson early on Tuesday (Jul 28), with firefighters finding him unresponsive inside the unit.
The man was found in the living room of a ninth-floor unit at Block 39 Circuit Road, after firefighters forced their way into the flat filled with black smoke, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post.
Rescuers immediately carried him out of the flat and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before he was taken to Changi General Hospital, where he later died.
The police and SCDF said that they were alerted to the fire at about 2.05am.
During the operation, they evacuated about 80 residents from the housing block as a precaution.
The fire, involving items in the living room, was "swiftly extinguished", SCDF said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
