SINGAPORE — More than 900g of heroin and about 120g of ‘Ice’, estimated to be of worth more than S$86,000 in total, were seized on Monday (April 25) at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers first found about 460g of heroin in a motorcyclist’s bag during checks upon his arrival at the checkpoint at about 5.20am. The 20-year-old Malaysian man was placed under arrest, and referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for further investigations.
CNB officers subsequently recovered another 460g of heroin and about 120g of ‘Ice’ from the suspect. Investigations are ongoing.
The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of pure heroin found exceeds 15g, which could feed the addiction of 180 drug abusers for a week.
“The Home Team agencies will continue to conduct checks on passengers and vehicles at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle in undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contrabands,” said ICA and CNB in a joint release on Tuesday.
