SINGAPORE — A Malaysian man was jailed for three weeks on Friday (Feb 26) for threatening his ex-girlfriend with sexually explicit videos the couple, both 24, had recorded during their relationship.
When the pair’s relationship soured in September last year, the woman told Chong Jin Hoong to delete photos and videos of the couple engaged in sexual acts from his phone. Chong did so, and showed the victim that the album on his phone was empty.
About a week later, after the pair got into an argument over the woman collecting her belongings from the accused’s home, Chong sent her a screenshot of a photo album on his phone containing seven videos of the victim engaging in sexual activities.
He also sent three text messages stating he had not deleted all the videos, and that if she “continued to be arrogant”, he would upload the videos and tag the victim on her Facebook and WeChat accounts.
Chong also sent the victim nude photos he had taken of her, prompting her response: “I don’t know how am I (sic) going to face all sorts of judgmental gazes, don’t know how to face people in the future, so cold, my heart is shivering … I will bear the consequences for what I have done.”
He continued to threaten the victim over the next couple of days, telling her he would send photos and videos to 20 of her friends and sending her screenshots showing a number of her friends had accepted his Facebook friend requests.
The victim reported the matter to police the next day.
Chong, who pleaded guilty to two out of three charges for criminal intimidation, said he had threatened the victim to scare her into talking to him and to get back together.
For threatening the victim with injury to her reputation, Chong could have been jailed up to two years and/or fined. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
