SINGAPORE — An O-Level examination paper for literature in Tamil has been rescheduled, after it was originally slated to be held a day after Deepavali.

This year’s O-Level Literature in Tamil Paper One exam will now be held at 10am on Nov 19, instead of 2pm on Nov 7, the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) said on Tuesday (Aug 28).

Nine students who are sitting for the paper are affected. No other examinations taking place on Nov 7 has been rescheduled.

SEAB said the rescheduling was done after “careful deliberation” following feedback that the Literature Paper One examination takes place a day after Deepavali.

Even though the exam has been rescheduled to the last day of the O-Level examination, the board said due to the small number of candidates taking this paper, the marking and results processing can still be completed in time for the release of the 2018 O Level results.

The O-Level examination is conducted within October and November each year.

In planning the timetable, the SEAB said that it is mindful about balancing the number of papers that candidates have to sit within this time frame, while minimising timetable clashes due to the variety of subject combinations offered.

When there is a gazetted festive public holiday within the examination period, the SEAB said it will avoid scheduling examinations on the afternoon of the eve of the festival and in the morning after the festival to minimise disruption to the festive celebrations.
