SINGAPORE: Singapore kayaker Stephenie Chen advanced to the women's K1 500m Final C on Saturday (Aug 10).

Competing in Final C, where there was no chance of a medal, Chen finished 7th and 23rd overall out of 40 kayakers with a time of 1m 56.55s.

Earlier in the day, she earned qualification to the final after finishing 6th out of eight in the semi-final with a time of 1m 55.15s.

Chen is the first Singaporean kayaker to make an Olympic final.

Chen punched her ticket for the Paris Olympics after finishing third in the women’s K1 500m final at the ACC Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe Asian Championships.

She is a five-time SEA Games champion and won silver at the 2022 Asian Games.

In the 2012 London Games, Geraldine Lee was unable to progress past the semi-final stage, finishing 22nd out of 25 overall.
