SINGAPORE: A seven-year-old girl died after an accident involving a van at a Sengkang condominium on Thursday morning (Aug 15).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police were alerted to the incident at about 6.20am along 23 Fernvale Lane.

That's the address of The Topiary, an executive condominium in Sengkang.

In an announcement to residents seen by CNA, the management of The Topiary said that an accident took place in the estate early Thursday morning. Residents were also advised to refrain from speculating about the accident and to respect the privacy of those involved.

A resident told CNA that he noticed many police cars in the compound on Thursday morning. He also saw a woman crying but said he did not know what happened until he read news reports of the accident.

The girl was hit by a school bus on a road inside the condominium, according to The New Paper and Facebook page Singapore roads accidents.com.

The New Paper also reported that she was a Primary 1 student.

The girl was taken unconscious to Sengkang General Hospital where she died, the police said.

The van driver, a 67-year-old man, was arrested for careless driving causing death.

Investigations are ongoing.
