SINGAPORE: A 56-year-old man was taken to hospital on Saturday (Jul 13) after the car he was driving crashed into the Fountain of Wealth at Suntec City.

The police said they were alerted to the accident at about 12.15am, adding that the man is being investigated for dangerous driving.

Photos and videos sent to CNA showed a car overturned at the Fountain of Wealth, with passers-by helping someone lying on the ground.

Fire trucks from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were seen along the road above the fountain.

The man was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, said SCDF. He was conscious at the time.

The Fountain of Wealth, a prominent feature in Suntec City, is at the centre of a traffic roundabout above it.

It was once recognised as the world's largest fountain, having been listed in the Guinness Book of Records in 1998.

The structure is 13.8m tall, with four bronze legs that support an elevated ring 21m in diameter. The water feature is turned on at certain times of the day.

According to Suntec City's website, the Fountain of Wealth is closed for maintenance from Jul 5 to 25.

A Suntec City spokesperson told CNA it is fully cooperating with the authorities on their investigation.

"However at this time, we are unable to provide further details or comments until the investigation is complete," the spokesperson added.
