Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem will meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Monday in Putrajaya to discuss greater autonomy for the state. Sarawak wants autonomy in taxation, education, healthcare and internal affairs, as well as higher royalty fees for oil and gas mined from within its territory. The issue of greater devolution of power was one of the key campaign issues for Mr Adenan in the May 7 Sarawak state elections which saw the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition sweeping 72 out of 82 seats.
US celebrates Independence Day
The United States celebrates its Independence Day on Monday but several cities in Washington, Oregon and California have banned or restricted fireworks as parts of the West Coast remain abnormally dry or in a drought. The West Coast has been hit with dry weather conditions since April that could make fireworks perilous.
Weather forecast
Partly cloudy conditions are expected across Singapore throughout the day, with temperatures ranging from 26°C to 34°C.
