PM Lee’s official visit to Myanmar continues
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s official visit to Myanmar continues on Wednesday, where he will meet with more officials, including Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Min Aung Hlaing, and former President U Thein Sein, before he moves on to Yangon, where he will meet about 100 Singaporeans at a reception. On Tuesday, Mr Lee was greeted with a welcome ceremony and a dinner hosted by President U Htin Kyaw, and he also called on Ms Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor, Union Minister in President’s Office and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.
COE bidding exercise wraps at 4pm
The first Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bidding exercise of the month wraps at 4pm on Wednesday. Last month, bidding closed at S$47,020 for Category A cars (up to 1600cc and 97kW), S$49,156 for Category B cars (above 1600cc or 97kW), S$6,303 for motorcycles, S$43,002 for goods vehicles and buses, and S$$49,700 for the Open Category, which can be used for any vehicle type but are used mainly for Category B cars.
Modi to address joint session of the US Congress
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a bilateral visit to the United States, will become the fifth Indian premier to address a joint session of the US Congress on Wednesday. Since Mr Modi came to power in 2014, he has cultivated a close personal relationship with President Barack Obama and the two men have met a total of seven times.
Balakrishnan to visit Washington
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will make a working visit to Washington DC from Wednesday till Friday. While in the United States, Dr Balakrishnan will meet with National Security Advisor Susan Rice, senior Administration officials and prominent American strategic thinkers. He will also host a reception for members of the Congressional Singapore Caucus and meet key members of the US Congress. Dr Balakrishnan will also deliver a speech at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies on “The US’ Role in the Asia-Pacific”.
