SINGAPORE: A woman was arrested on Thursday (Aug 29) for allegedly taking a knife from a restaurant table and attempting to rob a customer.

At 9.34am on Thursday, the police were alerted to a case of attempted armed robbery in a restaurant located along Thomson Road, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a news release on Thursday.

Before the police arrived, the restaurant staff had intervened and the 50-year-old woman left the place empty-handed, SPF added.

“Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV footages, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her within nine hours of the report,” SPF said.

“A knife was seized as case exhibit.”

The woman will be charged in court on Friday with the offence of attempted armed robbery.

If convicted, she could be jailed between two and seven years.

The offence also carries at least 12 strokes of the cane. However, she cannot be caned as she's a woman.
