SINGAPORE — A ceiling collapsed at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) on Tuesday (Jan 2) morning, injuring four people.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said that they were alerted to the incident at 10.13am.
A RWS spokesperson said on Tuesday that a part of the ceiling board leading to the mezzanine gaming area of the casino fell off in the morning when external contractors were carrying out enhancement works.
The spokesperson added that there were no guests in that area during the incident.
“One security staff and three external contractors sustained minor injuries. All had already been discharged after receiving outpatient treatment at the resort’s clinic and hospital,” said the spokesperson.
“The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority. The mezzanine gaming area is temporarily closed and will resume operation after a thorough safety inspection is completed.”
TODAY understands that three people were taken to the Singapore General Hospital. The fourth injured person was treated at the in-house clinic. They were said to have suffered head and neck injuries, as well as some cuts.
An Indonesian tourist who did not wish to be named told TODAY she was in the casino at about 10am when she heard a loud noise.
"I saw someone injured," she said. "It looked like a foot injury."
