Australian Open 2025: Day Seven highlights, results

MELBOURNE : Highlights of the seventh day of the Australian Open on Saturday (times GMT):

1348 RUNE OUTLASTS KECMANOVIC IN FIVE-SET THRILLER

Danish 13th seed Holger Rune beat unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-7(5) 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4 in three-and-a-half hours to reach the last 16. Former French Open and Wimbledon quarter-finalist Rune will take on world number one Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.

Sinner and the 21-year-old Rune are even at two wins apiece in their four previous encounters, with the Italian winning the most recent two.

1205 KEYS BEATS COLLINS TO REACH LAST 16

Twice semi-finalist Madison Keys defeated fellow American and former runner-up Danielle Collins 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 23 minutes to earn her place in the last 16.

Collins, seeded 10th, hurt her knee during the second set. Keys, the 19th seed, will face former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina next.

1018 SINNER BREEZES PAST GIRON

World number one and defending champion Jannik Sinner eased past American Marcos Giron 6-3 6-4 6-2 in just two hours to reach the last 16. It was Sinner's 10th consecutive win at the Australian Open. He takes Danish 13th seed Holger Rune next.

0957 SVITOLINA STUNS FOURTH SEED PAOLINI

Ukrainian 28th seed Elina Svitolina stormed through the final set to defeat Italian fourth seed Jasmine Paolini 2-6 6-4 6-0. Former quarter-finalist Svitolina will face Veronika Kudermetova in the last 16.

0904 SHELTON KNOCKS OUT MUSETTI

Lorenzo Musetti was sent packing by American 21st seed Ben Shelton, who beat the Italian 16th seed 6-3 3-6 6-4 7-6(5).

0738 TIEN CONTINUES IMPRESSIVE RUN, HADDAD MAIA ELIMINATED

American 19-year-old Learner Tien, who stunned Daniil Medvedev in the second round, beat Frenchman Corentin Moutet 7-6(10) 6-3 6-3 to become the youngest man to reach the round of 16 at Melbourne Park since 22-times Grand Slam champion Rafa Nadal.

Women's 15th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, meanwhile, was upset by Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-4 6-2.

0705 HOME FAVOURITE DE MINAUR PASSES CERUNDOLO TEST

Australian eighth seed Alex de Minaur battled from a set down to beat Argentine 31st seed Francisco Cerundolo 5-7 7-6(3) 6-3 6-3 and reach the fourth round at Melbourne Park for the fourth successive time.

0617 RELENTLESS MONFILS SHOCKS FRITZ

U.S. Open runner-up Taylor Fritz was dumped out by 38-year-old Frenchman Gael Monfils, the American fourth seed falling to a 3-6 7-5 7-6(1) 6-4 defeat on Margaret Court Arena.

"I've been just fortunate," Monfils said. "I try to be very disciplined with the recovery. I have a strong belief in myself, a strong belief that I can still do some damage, and I have a big trust to my team."

0445 RYBAKINA POWERS PAST YASTREMSKA, LYS MARCHES ON

Sixth seed Elena Rybakina, looking to win a second Grand Slam title after her Wimbledon triumph in 2022, advanced to the fourth round after beating Ukrainian 32nd seed Dayana Yastremska 6-3 6-4.

German lucky loser Eva Lys also progressed after a 4-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Romanian Jaqueline Cristian. Lys will next face world number two Iga Swiatek.

0333 KASATKINA THROUGH IN STRAIGHT SETS

Russian ninth seed Daria Kasatkina moved past 24th seed Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 7-5 6-1.

0245 NAVARRO BEATS JABEUR

American eighth seed Emma Navarro knocked out Tunisian Ons Jabeur, defeating the former world number two 6-4 3-6 6-4 on Margaret Court Arena.

0230 MICHELSEN UPSETS KHACHANOV

Unseeded American Alex Michelsen stunned Russian 19th seed Karen Khachanov, a former semi-finalist, 6-3 7-6(5) 6-2.

0156 SWIATEK STEAMROLLS RADUCANU

Polish second seed Iga Swiatek maintained her perfect record against Emma Raducanu as the five-times Grand Slam champion beat the Briton 6-1 6-0 on Rod Laver Arena to reach the fourth round in just over an hour.

Swiatek has now won all four of their meetings.

0015 ACTION UNDERWAY ON DAY SEVEN AT MELBOURNE PARK

Third-round action got underway as scheduled under sunny skies on day seven of the championships.

The temperature was already 22 degrees Celsius (72F) at the Melbourne Park precinct and is forecast to peak at 28 in the late afternoon.

Women's second seed Iga Swiatek was first up on the main showcourt Rod Laver Arena looking to maintain her perfect record against Emma Raducanu in a battle of former U.S. Open champions.
