SINGAPORE: Olympic medallist Max Maeder has wasted no time getting back to winning ways, clinching victory in his first competition since the Paris Games.

The 17-year-old took the Austrian leg of the IKA KiteFoil World Series on Sunday (Sep 8), winning 11 of 12 races at Lake Traunsee. As a result, Maeder needed just one race win in the medal series to take the title and he did that at the first time of asking.

Maeder’s training partner Martin Dolenc took silver, while France's Benoit Gomez finished with the bronze.

Olympic gold medallist Valentin Bontus also took part but did not make the final.

Last month, Maeder won OIympic bronze at the Marseille Marina, ending Singapore’s eight-year wait for an Olympic podium finish since swimmer Joseph Schooling won gold in 2016.

Maeder also became Singapore's youngest Olympic medallist. Bontus won gold, while Slovenia's Toni Vodisek took silver.
