These vanilla farmers in Singapore took their plants from HDB corridors to luxury hotels
Meet the couple growing vanilla in Singapore
Charles Santoso and his wife Juwita Maha Ranni Setiawan are vanilla farmers.
They operate several vanilla farms across Singapore, including plots at Gardens by the Bay and at luxury hotels.
The couple started modestly by growing 10 vanilla vines at their HDB corridor in Tampines.
Their biggest plantation at Science Park now has five varieties of vanilla: Planifolias, tahitians, pomponas, odoratas and aphyllas.
“Everything I’ve learned has come from a place of curiosity and passion. I picked things up through a lot of self-learning,” said Santoso.
