Adjournment motion on low-altitude economy

31:48 Min

Singapore should pursue opportunities in the low-altitude economy, which is an emerging high-growth market, said NMP Neo Kok Beng. He proposed allocating more funding, setting up test sites for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and establishing academic programmes to build up skilled talent. Dr Neo said possible applications include air tourism and air logistics. In reply, Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling said it is not viable to deploy eVTOLs extensively in Singapore due to its congested airspace and unpredictable climate. However, with drone technology becoming more mature, the government is studying new approaches. It will review how it can expand testing sites, including working with regional partners on overseas sandboxes. Ms Sun said eVTOLs could eventually be an option for cross-border travel to nearby offshore islands or cross-border cargo transfer with neighbouring countries.
