08:24 Min

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020, Singapore’s retail sector still saw a net increase of 6,970 firms by the end of September this year. Meanwhile, new entrants into the tourism sector have kept it "fairly stable", with around 420 licensed hotels and about 2,900 licensed tour guides operating today. Travel agents have been more badly hit, with about eight per cent or 157 of them ceasing operations. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan provided these updates in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 3), in response to an MP's questions. He also outlined the various support measures that have been rolled out for both sectors.
