Alvin Tan on protecting consumers from greenwashing
The Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act already protects consumers against businesses that make false or misleading claims about their products or services, including around greenwashing, said Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan. Replying to Parliamentary questions on Friday (Feb 16), he also said the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) and Consumers Association of Singapore have jointly developed a set of tips to help consumers better understand environmental claims made by suppliers or businesses. The information is available on their websites. Mr Tan said CCCS is also developing a set of guidelines to help businesses make more accurate environmental claims about their products and services.
