Alvin Tan on STB grants for events to support tourism
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has been supporting leisure events through grants since 1998 to complement other marketing initiatives, including campaigns and partnerships. For leisure events that STB has supported, international visitors make up 25 per cent to 30 per cent of the total attendees on average. STB also supports the development and marketing of new tourism products, rejuvenation of existing tourism offerings and upskilling of tourism workers. It also helps local tourism companies become more productive and innovative. It conducts thorough assessments before providing any grant, looking at the qualitative and quantitative benefits. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan said this in reply to MPs' questions in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5).
