Amy Khor on minimising potential impact of microplastics and nanoplastics on health

Singapore is closely monitoring international discussions and scientific studies on microplastics and nanoplastics. It has implemented measures to reduce plastic waste, as well as minimise the potential contributions of plastic debris into the environment and marine waters from land-based sources. These include robust waste management systems and a strict anti-littering enforcement regime. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor, who said this in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Wednesday (Apr 3), urged businesses and individuals to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics. With 2024 designated as the Year of Public Hygiene, the Government is increasing efforts to work with stakeholders to enhance cleanliness and address littering, including of plastic waste, she added.
