Ang Wei Neng on Electric Vehicles Charging Bill

14:16 Min

Singapore will be transformed from a city with few charging points to one with probably the highest number of charging points per capita, said MP Ang Wei Neng. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 30), he said the Electric Vehicles Bill is a strategic and timely move. He stressed the need to ensure that the system is fair and affordable. He proposed offering perks to give electric vehicles (EVs) a stronger push. One way is to give discounts of 10 per cent for COE premiums of EVs under Category A, which will target those who are more cost-conscious. This can be removed once there is critical mass, he said. He also stressed the need to cultivate a good EV charging culture to deter the hogging of charging points. Mr Ang also urged the Government to fix teething issues. One revolves around the difficulties EV charging operators face in installing charging points at HDB car parks. He urged agencies to remove red tape so that EV chargers can be deployed swiftly.
