Ang Wei Neng on Women's Charter (Amendment) Bill

05:50 Min

In Parliament on Monday (Jan 10), MP Ang Wei Neng said he hoped that allowing divorce by mutual agreement would not lead to an increase in divorce rates and more single-parent families. He urged judges not to grant divorces just because both parties have agreed to it but rather, require them to undergo counselling. Mr Ang also called for more progress in moving towards gender-neutral maintenance in cases of divorce, to reflect societal changes and be fair to both parties. He said more men now choose to stay home to look after the children and run the household and even in double-income households, women may earn more than their husbands.
