India's Supreme Court directs Election Commission to answer opposition's plea on voter list
India's Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to respond to a plea on alleged irregularity in the revision of voter rolls. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition chiefs filed the petition, after some 130 million names were removed since revisions began last year. The commission has disputed the number and denied that the changes gave undue advantage to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling BJP in recent state polls. The opposition pointed to the roughly 9 million names taken off the list in West Bengal and the BJP's subsequent sweep to power for the first time. Neha Poonia reports from New Delhi.
